Meet Bugga

For the last few weeks Sam has been saying, "Where did ya go Bugga?" and I had no idea who or what "Bugga" was...until today when I met Bugga. I recently read that two-year olds often develop a very creative imagination and can have imaginary friends. Sam is extremely creative, always using his hands as toys, making each one a character; one fighting the other, racing the other, talking to the other. In his "hand play" I would often hear the word (name) "Bugga". This afternoon I asked Sam if "Bugga" was his friend and he answered, "yes". After a number of questions either from me or Matt we deduced the following about "Bugga":
  1. Bugga is a boy, dinosaur, bird, dog, or fish (whatever animal Sam is most fascinated with at that time).
  2. He eats bugs, which explains a story about eating bugs that Sam was telling me a few weeks ago.
  3. He is red.
  4. He has teeth.
  5. He flies.
  6. Bugga travels around with us in the car, into stores and restaurants.
  7. He sleeps outside at night.
  8. He only plays with Sam during the day.

I welcomed Bugga into our world and throughout the afternoon I would periodically ask Sam if Bugga was with us and, sure enough, he was most of the day, until the sun set and then Bugga was outside sleeping...according to Sam. The imaginary world of a child is incredible.

Who Hits Here?

As you can see from the counter that has been added to my blog page; this site has been hit nearly 9,000 times! I was amazed to see that number, then I looked at how long I have been blogging, almost two years!! It still seems like a lot of hits to me...I don't know that many people!

So, if you hit this blog...LET YOU BE KNOWN! Please leave me a comment and tell me about yourself!

After all this I've been through with my mom, this blog is getting very personal and I am feeling a little violated (not really...well, maybe a little)....

Back to Cloth

After being back home for a week and finally conquering the mountain of laundry; we are back to being a cloth diapering family! It feels good. However, Arlo grew so much that all of the little baby diapers we had for him either no longer fit at all OR are almost too small! Here's what I had in my newborn stash:
  • 2 size 0 Kissaluvs (courtesy of my sweet Jane)
  • 10 size newborn AIO Kushies borrowed from a friend.
  • 5 size small Bummis whisper wrap covers and chinese prefold diapers
  • 3 handsewn Fuzzi Bunz, size small (these Arlo never wore, and look exactly like the real deal..thanks Kristy!)
  • 1 size small Bumkins AIO (my mom scored this for me at a thrift store, and I quite like it)

All in all I had 21 diapers and was so excited to diaper with cloth at the newborn age. I didn't start cloth with Sam until he was a month old. I used cotton prefolds, pins and plastic pants!! Ugh!

When I went to put diapers on Arlo a few days ago I was shocked at what didn't fit him anymore. The Kissaluvs he can still wear, though we are on the last snap and there isn't any room to grow...I give them a week! The Kushies definately didn't work...they were sized "up to 10 lbs." and well, we all know he started out well above that! He did wear them once and they were cute. The bummis covers and dipes are still going, though we are to the outer edge of the velcro strip and I know it won't be long before the covers won't fit anymore...and as I wrote above, the awsome Fuzzi Bunz didn't fit! I was surprised because they looked like they were bigger, but Arlo has chubby legs and that is what is really stopping us from using them. The Bumkins AIO still fits and it seems that it might for a little while still.

So, where does that leave me....with about 10 diapers (either prefold or fitted cotton of random assortment) and 5 bummis wraps! I did just get back my 5 size medium Fuzzi Bunz from a friend and they fit him! I even had to use some of the outer snaps! I also borrowed a full set of chinese cotton prefolds and bummis wraps from a friend whose son just potty trained. I am set now, but had Jaadyn not decided to use underwear last week, I'd be out of luck and purchasing more cloth! Whew! After using both the AIO's and the prefold/bummis wrap system, I have to say that I quite like the prefold/bummis system. There is no "stuffing" of diapers and they aren't picky in the wash like the fleece of Fuzzi Bunz. I would reccommend this system to first time cloth diaperers (if that is a word).

Sam is in his size large Fuzzi Bunz and doing just fine! I can see some of the "used from ebay" FB's getting to be quite "used" and the PUL seems to a little less strong, if you know what I mean. They will get us through though. We are getting closer and closer to underwear and the potty! YEAH!

The latest craze in the cloth diapering world are bumGenius diapers. They look very cool and I'd love to try one, though I doubt I'd buy more than one. I am certainly not as "in to" the cloth diapering this time...just what is easy to put on, trim, and easy to wash! Though, I do still LOVE the look of a cloth diaperd baby butt!!

New Look and a Cold

For those of you who are not blog-city bloggers, this new look was something that was forced upon us! Well, we were able to design the layout and such, but there have been major changes with the website. So, I hope that you like the new look. For now it will do and when I have more time, I'd like to make it a bit more personal. Until then enjoy the lime fractals!

Sam is quite sick with a nasty cold and we took him to the doctor today. I was afraid it was pneumonia (it is that bad), but it isn't! Thank goodness. Just a nasty cold. We did get some good cough syrup with codeine to help with the nights and it looks like tonight we may all sleep better. The last three nights it has been all 4 of us in our queen size bed with Sam coughing and sweating from fever, then Arlo waking to nurse every 2 (or less) hours because he wakes from the coughing....ugh! I am exhausted!
