Sam turned 3 years old on Friday and we celebrated in the best way this family knows how. Read on (pictures will follow):
Friday, May 18:
The night before, Matt and I stayed up late like it was Christmas Eve. I iced and decorated Sam's cake (which was harder than I had though...thanks for the heads up, Kristy) and Matt put together this great wooden tool bench, complete with wooden tools, screws, bolts and pre-drilled parts to build with, we found for him last minute. When Sam woke in the morning he saw the cake in the kitchen, ran into the bedroom and said, "Mommy, my birthday cake!". It was so sweet! The afternoon brought a play date with a friend and some great painting with a new paint set. Sam is really beginning to enjoy making art and I love doing projects with him. For dinner we had the requested blueberry train shaped pancakes and bacon, then presents followed by birthday cake. A very fun evening. Sam's favorite birthday gift: a remote controlled jeep from my dad and sister!
Saturday, May 19:
A beautiful day to be outside and that is just what we did...lots of yard work. Sam accompanied Matt to work, which he absolutely loves doing and I bought some sand for the sandbox with Arlo. We had a small BBQ with friends and kids...water balloons, dancing, grilled chicken...Sam's favorites! Matt and I had a really good time, as well. It is so nice to be with good friends.
Sunday, May 20:
Another great day to get yard work done...so we did. Our house is looking so nice! We took Sam to see Shrek the Third while Arlo stayed with our neighbor...a real treat for us all and Sam LOVED it! He was enthralled by the "big t.v." and I loved having his snuggle on my lap while we watched. Arlo did great with our neighbor and I think we'll have to do that again.
All in all, a really fantastic birthday weekend for us all.
